Amy began her teaching career as a Sixth-Grade English and History Teacher at Aspire’s Lionel Wilson College Preparatory Academy in Oakland, California. She then attended UC Berkeley’s Graduate School of Education, where she did research in close reading instruction, disciplinary literacy, digital literacies, and the spread and scale of digital learning. Amy has coached and supervised student teachers through UC Berkeley’s Multicultural Urban Secondary English (MUSE) master’s program and as a University Supervisor for Cal State East Bay. At Alder, she teaches the 6–12 English language arts and humanities methods course. Amy received her BA from the University of Texas in English and Plan II and her MA/PhD from UC Berkeley in Education (Language, Literacy, and Culture program) with a Designated Emphasis in New Media.
