Prior to joining Alder, Julie held the position of Senior Program Officer at the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation as a member of the foundation’s K–12 initiatives team with a focus on teachers and their practice and profession, as well as working as a State Program Officer in Louisiana, Texas, and Kentucky. She also served as Executive Director of the CHIME Institute in Los Angeles and prepared for that role as a classroom teacher, program specialist, and school principal in Los Angeles. CHIME is a nonprofit charter organization developed with the Michael D. Eisner College of Education at California State University, Northridge to create demonstration sites dedicated to examining and implementing evidence-based practices that provide the highest-quality instructional experiences to students with learning profiles ranging from highly gifted to those with disabilities. Julie also supported the development of the CHIME/CSUN Educator Development Center, which provides on-site learning practicums for pre- and in-service teachers, and she taught within teacher credentialing programs for the departments of elementary and special education. Julie holds a Doctoral degree in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies from Cal State Northridge. Her research examined the impact of systemic schoolwide collaboration among teachers on differentiated instruction.
