Zach Metzinger first began working in education in 2012 as a City Year AmeriCorps member at Stevenson Middle School in Los Angeles, serving as a tutor and mentor to at-risk youth. After his time there, Zach joined City Year Los Angeles’s Civic Engagement team as a Project Leader and then afterward as the Senior Civic Engagement Program Manager. During that time, he managed each year a team of eight AmeriCorps members who planned and executed 30 school beautification projects throughout the greater Los Angeles area. After four years with City Year Los Angeles, Zach transitioned to City Year’s national Recruitment and Admissions team as the West Region Admissions Manager, where he oversaw the hiring and onboarding of all incoming AmeriCorps members for City Year Los Angeles, as well as supporting the hiring process for all of City Year’s West Coast sites. In that role, he also led the region in creating more data-informed practices, building a model that could better forecast incoming corps sizes and identify trends among City Year’s applicants. Zach is originally from San Luis Obispo, California, and earned his BA in History from Cal Poly Pomona.
